Osmanlı döneminde onarım geçiren ve bazı yeni ilavelerle genişletilen kale önemli bir askeri üs olma özelliğini yüzyılımızın başlarına kadar korunmuştur. Moloz ve kesme taştan yapılan kalenin birçok bölümü yıkılmış olmasına rağmen yinede orijinal görünümünden pek fazla uzaklaşmamıştır. Ancak katlar arasının ahşap oluşu bu bölümlerin günümüze ulaşmasını engellemiştir. TRABZON KALESİ Büyük bir bölümü ayakta kalan surlar şehrin eski yapılarını oluştururlar. Bugünkü surların en eski bölümü Roma devrine MS 5. yüzyıla tarihlenmektedir. Surların daha eski safhaları hakkında tarihi kaynaklar bilgi verirler. MÖ. 5. yüzyılda şehri gören Kesenefon surların varlığından sözetmektedir. Trabzon surları Yukarı Hisar, İçkale, Orta Hisar ve Aşağı Hisar olmak üzere üç bölüme ayrılmaktadır. Yukarı Hisar ile Orta Hisar, Kuzgun Dere ile İmaret (İskeleboz ) deresi arasındaki yüksek kaya kitlesi üzerine kurulmuştur. Bu bölüm kalenin en eski bölümünü meydana getirmekte ve kaba olarak bir yamuğa benzemektedir. Şehrin adı bu Trapez-Trabezus yamuk şeklinden gelmektedir. CEPHANELİK İreni ve Fatih kulesi olarak bilinen yapının Yıldız Sarayı albümlerindeki resminin altında H.1305 yılında yaptırıldığı yazılıdır. Kapısı üzerinde II.Abdülhamit tuğrası ve kitabe de bunu doğrular. Cephaneliğin 1887 yılında yaptırıldığı kesin olarak anlaşılmaktadır. Yaklaşık 25-40 m. çapında iç içe dairevi iki bölümden oluşmaktadır. İç bölüm dört, dış bölüm ise üç katlıydı. İç ve dış yapılarda oval kemerli üçer adet pencere bulunmaktadır. Yüksek bir koruma duvarı içine alınmış olup batı yakınında ise karakol hanesi vardı. 1916-1918 Rus işgali sırasında mühimmat deposu olarak kullanılmış ve 9 Temmuz 1919′da bir patlamayla örtüsü yıkılmıştır. Günümüzde özel sektör tarafından aslına uygun olarak restore edilmektedir.
